What is I Love Thorndale (ILT)?- the long version
I Love Thorndale (ILT) is a community group that was created in an effort to bring everyone to the same table in Thorndale. ILT saw the need to become the missing link between the existing service groups, clubs, businesses and residents to foster collaboration and communication.
ILT acknowledges the decades of volunteer work that has established Thorndale as a close-knit, vibrant community. ILT strives to create awareness of all of the existing clubs, groups, local businesses and other amenities and resources. ILT's goal is to communicate the value of supporting local and in turn, help these clubs and groups recruit new members to allow them to continue to thrive and contribute in so many ways in the community.
ILT also wants to provide a platform for citizens to have a voice, including the local youth. This group has created surveys and hosted events in response to the community’s input. Ideally, at an ILT monthly meeting a representative from each Thorndale service club (ie. Lions) and group (ie. churches), business owners, members of council, and most importantly the residents of Thorndale gather to discuss what’s happening in Thorndale, develop and plan events, and create sub-committees (ie. Farmers’ Market, Business Directory, Welcome Package) and link the community to its network to take action.
In just a short time, ILT has evolved to be the hub for communication in the village through the website with custom local business directory (www.ilovethorndale.ca), social media platforms (facebook and twitter), surveys, postcards and other print material. ILT has created and distributed over 100 Welcome Packages to new residents, hosted a service group Launch Party (Feb 2014), special events (ie. Easter Fun Run), Winter Carnival (2015) and engaged youth in the community through Shaw’s Ice Cream parties and three consecutive years of Youth Movie Project entries for the Thorndale Fall Fair. They even sell Thorndale clothing! ILT continues to grow and develop and encourages members of the community to contact them for more information about the group or any of the projects that they are currently working on or could potentially look to support. New ideas and new members are always welcome!
Communicate. Collaborate. Engage. Inspire!
Don't you just LOVE Thorndale?
